Honored to Receive…

Over the last week or so, I have been very honored to receive two different blog awards from three of my fellow bloggers. Within a day or so, Nova (from The Butterfly Tree) and Heather (from Unqualified Heart) both presented me with the Versatile Blogger Award. Then, around a week later, Carly (from My Hearing Loss Story) blessed me with the One Lovely Blog Award.

I am so thankful to all three of these lovely bloggers for their support and encouragement! I am also extremely thankful to the many amazing bloggers who have been following and supporting my journey over the past few months.

Braver Than Before has been such a positive addition to my life, in more ways than one. Being committed to writing through my battle with fear and anxiety on a daily basis has proven to be extremely prolific for me. But beyond that, the community I have experienced as a result of sharing my struggles so openly has been such a welcome gift. I am honored that so many people have opened up to me as a result of reading one of my posts, and I can only hope to continue to be an encouragement to my readers going forward!

It has been a busy few weeks, but I am finally getting around to responding to the blog awards I have recently received. As per the rules of both awards, I have been charged with the task of sharing seven facts about myself with the blogosphere. So here goes!

1. My first love in life was the arts. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years pursuing a future in music and/or theatre. Over the years, I have performed in such productions as Beauty and the Beast, Seussical the Musical, Oliver!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Children of Eden, and Dry Streak. To date, I have seen five musicals on Broadway, including the Lion King, Wicked, An American in Paris, Cats, and 42 Street.

2. I graduated from high school when I was sixteen years old. In ninth grade, I was in such a rush to get out of school that I devised a plan to condense the following three years of high school into two. The school recognized that I’d found a bit of a loop hole in the system, but because I managed to achieve more than enough credits (at an honors level) in that amount of time, they allowed me to do it.

3. At every season of my life, I have always had a few “safe” staple foods that I turn to when I don’t know what else to eat. Sultana raisins have been on the list for many, many years. I snack on them constantly and can go through a giant bag so quickly. I have actually started to wonder if this is more of an addiction than a “safe food”! About a month ago, I accidentally bought a bag of Thomsen raisins. I was so disappointed, but I couldn’t return them because I didn’t notice until I opened the bag and tossed a few into my mouth. They just weren’t the same, and I decided that maybe this would be a good opportunity to cut back on my raisin consumption. I am slowly making my way through the bag, but I am dreaming of the day I can eat sultanas again.

4. I am a Christian. I love Jesus, and He gives me the strength and hope I need to live my life and conquer the obstacles I face every single day. I am disappointed by the way that some Christians have misrepresented Jesus and His message throughout history, but I also recognize that I too am imperfect and therefore incapable of faultlessly expressing the perfect love of a perfect God to the world. As such, I am all the more thankful for God’s love and grace for all of us, despite our shortcomings.

5. I am obsessed with picking apart my split ends. I think there may actually be a medical term for this fixation, but we’ll leave that diagnosis for another day. I could genuinely sit in the same place for hours, just sifting through my hair for split ends and pulling them apart. I think maybe I find it to be a strange mix of calming and exhilarating. I know it’s weird, and I am okay with that!

6. I like painting! I don’t really know how to paint, but I really enjoy going to paint night classes and following along with a teacher who knows what they are doing! While I do struggle with my perfectionism in this context, I find that the creative energy of the experience outweighs the anxiety. Overall, it is calming and pleasant for me!

7. I am currently working on my ninth jigsaw puzzle for 2017. I love puzzling and find it to be another very relaxing activity, but have to be intentional about finding time for it. This year, we have started to keep a puzzle out on our kitchen island all of the time so that it is always in our face and we can’t ignore it! That way, at least a few pieces get put together every day (or most days)!

Finally, I have decided to nominate the following lovely blogs for the “One Lovely Blog Award”. These bloggers have inspired me, encouraged me, and been an all-around blessing to me. I am so thankful for them, and for what they are contributing to the blogosphere!

Yikes, somehow the rest of my (someone lengthy) comment disappeared… darn phone. 😦 Oh well, I’ll try to recreate it!

I really enjoy knowing more about you! A lot of these are interesting, like the music & theatre performance (sounds like you have a lot of talent!), painting, split ends and even the sultana raisins! [makes a mental note to buy that next grocery shopping trip] I can draw but I suck at painting, so you’ll only see black & white art from me. I’m a Buddhist myself, though sometimes I like learning about other religions and I think there is a fundamental message in all religions – love.

I love completing jigsaw puzzles too! Except that on my list of fun things to do, jigsaw puzzles a tendency to get pushed below games and reading, not to mention they’re really expensive if I want the good ones. Fun fact: while doing some e-course learning (listening to some guy talk on video about a subject) at the office, I learned better when I was doing jigsaw puzzles while listening! Of course, I got strange looks from colleagues, but hey, it was after my working hours. 😛

Thanks again for the tag, Talasi! ❤️

    Thank you for nominating meeeee!

It was awesome getting to know you a little better – I used to always pick at my split ends, but it’s harder with short hair now haha. Your story about graduating early is amazing, you were (and I’m sure still are) ambitious!

Haha! I think I would literally go into withdrawal if I cut my hair short!!! When I know I need to have a productive day or be able to pay attention to something, I will purposefully put my hair up in a bun to keep myself from getting carried away!

You deserve them Talasi, thanks for the nomination. I’ll be working on something soon cause you just have to be featured on my blog yet again. I am battling a flu so let me off now before contaminating you virally lol
