5 Things I’d Like to Accomplish Before the End of the Year

Each day this month I will be answering one question from these December Journal Prompts.

Day 7: What are 5 things you’d like to accomplish before the end of the year?

Okay, first of all, I just want to take a moment to talk about how intense this question is. Seriously… it’s December 7th, people. There are only 24 days left on the calendar for 2018, and you want me to think of FIVE things that I want to accomplish before we ring in the new year?! Do you know how difficult it is to accomplish anything when you live with an emerging toddler? If not, please peruse these pictures of the pantry reorganization project I took on earlier this week. I had SO much help!

But let’s get back to today’s question. I have decided that I need to be extremely careful with how I choose to answer it! I have a habit of making very lofty goals and being disappointed when I cannot follow through with them. So rather than coming up with five elaborate new objectives, let me tell you about five things that I already have every intention of accomplishing before the year is up.

1. Finish blogging through the December journal prompts.

Quite frankly, I was very nervous to commit to this challenge in the first place. But look at me go! I’ve already made it through the first seven days, meaning that I am 23% there! I can do this!

2. Make Rice Krispies marshmallow balls.

I don’t really know what these things are actually called, but they have been one of the Christmas treats of choice in my family for as long as I can remember. Basically, you take a marshmallow, generously coat it in a mixture of Mackintosh’s Toffee, margarine, and sweetened condensed milk, and then cover the whole thing in Rice Krispies. Listen y’all, these things are heaven. And I can’t let the year end without making (and eating) at least an ice cream pail full.

3. Nurse until Avra’s first birthday.

I cannot believe that my baby girl is turning one in thirteen days! How did this happen? Nursing through this whole first year has been a serious struggle. I have had to work so hard to make it this far, and now I am finally on the home stretch. I am so thankful that I was able to nurse Avra, despite the challenges, and I am very excited to reach this milestone in just under two weeks!

4. Make it to Kelowna for Christmas with no flight delays or cancellations.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no control over whether or not this goal will be accomplished! But it sure would be nice! The last time we flew to Kelowna to visit family, our flight was delayed, then cancelled. The next day, our replacement flight was delayed again, and we missed our connection. We ended up making it to Kelowna around 30 hours later than originally planned! I would like to avoid that this time!

5. Cherish the last few moments of 2018.

As we quickly approach the end of this year, in many ways I feel like I am facing the end of an era. Avra will turn one and won’t be a baby anymore. I will go back to work part time and won’t have the same kind of freedom to spend time with her that I had this year. Life will change. We will face all kinds of new challenges, joys, road blocks, lessons, and experiences in 2019. And I’m not quite ready for them yet. I’d like to stop time for just a moment and cherish the last few memories that I will make in 2018. This year has been as close to perfect as I could possibly imagine. My heart is so full. Well, almost. There’s just enough space left in there for 24 more extravagantly love-filled days. And I don’t want to miss a single one of them.
