Each day this month I will be answering one question from these December Journal Prompts.
Day 15: What are 5 things you’d like to start doing next year?
For the record, I feel the same way about this prompt as I felt about Day 7! The idea of adding FIVE new things into my world next year seems like a terribly lofty goal! But I’ll play along. I make no promises… but here are five things that I would like to start doing in 2018.
1. Learning how to use my camera.
I like taking pictures. And I was lucky enough to receive my very first DSLR camera for Christmas last year. But the truth is, I don’t really know anything about it. When I take a really nice picture, I give most of the credit to the camera and the rest of it to good luck! In 2019, I’d really like to set aside some time to learn the ins and outs of how my camera works and how to take beautiful photos on purpose!
2. Reading regularly.
I feel like I always make this goal and it never ends up lasting very long. But I would love to get serious about reading more regularly—and I don’t mean my Instagram feed! Did you know that reading actual books can boost your brain power and make you more empathetic? (At least…that’s what something I read on google told me…) In 2019, I’d like to tackle this goal for good and expand my heart and mind through regular reading.
3. Having people over.
I can get so bogged down by my busy schedule that I let this one slide way too easily. I have so many important relationships that mean the world to me, but history has shown that I am just really bad at getting together with people. This has to change! In 2019, I don’t want to make any more excuses! I want to make a regular habit of inviting people into my home and investing into those relationships.
4. Cooking more often and wasting less food.
I genuinely enjoy cooking healthy, wholesome meals, and I shop for groceries based on that premise. But when life gets crazy, eating real food always seems to get bumped to the back of the priority list. Unfortunately, this sometimes means that fresh fruits and veggies go bad in my produce drawer before I get around to using them. In 2019, I’d like to do a better job of planning/shopping appropriately and cooking more frequently, which will hopefully amount to a lot less waste!
5. Toddler crafts.
This might be the item on my list that I am most excited for! It has been so fun to watch Avra grow and develop over the course of this year. I have truly enjoyed every phase, but have been especially intrigued in the past few months as I have watched her figure out how to really “play.” I am looking forward to that next phase when we can start to make the play even more intentional, and hopefully introduce some simple crafts! I think she will love it… I know I will!
Okay, that wasn’t so bad. Bring on the new year!
